NEW HIGHER CAPACITY BOX HANDLING MACHINERY
The new range of Tong machinery for handling two-tonne boxes
is being introduced for the vegetable industry by Tong Engineering.

With many potato growers and packers, mainly in France, starting to
move over to this approach, new Tong ‘Easy-Fill’ box fillers and Control
Flow box tippers are now available to cope with the higher capacity.

"Farmers and packers are seeing the benefit of handling potatoes,
onions and other crops in the larger two-tonne boxes," says
Charles Tong, managing director of Tong Engineering.

"Most forklift trucks can handle two tonnes. This means that changing
from one to two-tonne boxes will lead to a halving of forklift movements. Also, the larger boxes and machinery to handle them are only
around one third more expensive than the one-tonne versions, working
out considerably cheaper on a cost-for-weight basis.

The two additions to our range of box handling machines have increased
the price by approximately 20 per cent which ensures our customers
continue to receive good value for money."

The range has been developed by Tong Engineering, the UK market
leaders in box handling machinery, to protect the quality of the crop.
The ‘Easy-Fill’ box filler uses a lowering conveyor to reach down to
lower potatoes gently into the bottom of the box, with a capacity
of up to 40 tonnes per hour.

The Control-Flow box tipper uses an hydraulic system with a plc
control to release the potatoes gradually, and without damage.

It can tip 25 tonnes per hour, and is available in a side-ejecting model
which itself reduces forklift movements and again speeds
turn around by up to 30 per cent.
