NEW FORCE IN VEGETABLE HANDLING
The merger between ourselves and Peal Engineering
will make the combined company, Tong Peal, one of
the leaders in UK and global markets.
The new company, with annual sales of almost
£8 million, will have increased capacity to meet the
larger and more specialised orders, and is planning
to set up new manufacturing facilities on a
single site in the future.
Currently we employ 90 at our Spilsby factory and Peal Engineering 50 at Horncastle ten miles away, and no redundancies are envisaged as a result of the merger.
In a joint statement the companies refer to the changing market place which "means that workloads fluctuate as the size of machinery and orders become ever larger.
"The two companies run along similar lines but each has its specialities and by working together we can pool our resources and ensure we make machinery in the most cost effective manner. We are confident the merger will benefit both our customers and suppliers."
Tong has built its reputation primarily in the potato industry, developing innovative handling, cleaning and grading machinery, while Peal is stronger in the vegetable sector where it has designed and manufactured equipment for a range of root and green leaf vegetables.
"This synergy extends to export markets where Tong has focused on western Europe and Peal has built substantial sales well beyond the EU," says Charles Tong, chairman and managing director of the new company. "We believe the merger will give us the resources to best serve our customers’ demands in the future through increased manufacturing capacity, product range and technical support."
